This one has been a very long time coming. I started it in June and I thought it would be finished easily and quickly over the summer but that didn't quite happen... I was working on it when travelling when I realise that I had cut 2 of the yellow triangles (around the middle square) too big so the unit with the 2 blue triangles + yellow square couldn't be attached properly. I had to unpick and recut the triangles before sewing them back. Of course, this set me back for a while (I hate unpicking!) but I finally ...

Not much for sewing for quite a while but this week has been a little better. And I al happy to report that Dear Jane block F1 - Big Top - is now finished with sashing now.
And it's even attached to the rest of the row! I am now at 143,8,0,3032 - 16 more blocks to go.
Now onto F8.

read moreE13 is finished and attached to row E, finally! I had planned to sew it while on holiday over a month ago and progressed it well until I realised I had cut 60° angles instead of 45° for the last 4 pieces for each sides of the outside triangles. It took very little time to draw the correct angle and cut the pieces back but here we are, I only finished the block this morning by the pool while we stayed overnight at a spa hotel.
I modified the block a little compared to the book, it has 26 pieces ...
read moreThis block definitely felt like being in jail... so many tiny pieces and so many opportunities for issues with all the lines to align. I really tried my best but the block is not perfect...BUT "finished is better than perfect" so I will learn to live with it.
It has been a long time coming since I started it during our holiday in Canada last summer and only finished it this week while on holidays. I had picked it up again at time but it was so hard to align all the pieces that I easily lost motivation. Finally ...
read moreI have been travelling with my Dear Jane again lately and after 3 attempts on attaching Row B to Row C, it is finally sewn correctly. For some reason, I couldn't seem to align B12 and C12 correctly and had to unpick twice. Happy that it is now fixed and my first 4 rows are fully assembled.
I can't add row E yet as I am missing 3 blocks E5, E9 and E13. I started on E5 [Rising Sun] on our recent trip to the UK and it is now finished, with the sashing and added to the ...
read moreI can't remember when was the last time I picked up my Dear Jane but it was a very long time ago... so I'm happy that over the course of last week I've sewn row D to the top.

Good Morning Quilters!
There is progress on three quilts this week.
The Cheddar/black UFO quilt is back up on the design wall, and the hsts that were packed away with it didn’t work out as a border. It made the quilt “busier” than it already is, and I think it’s plenty busy enough. I changed my mind and am going to add a simple black solid border and be done with it. As a quilt maker, I have a right to change my mind….several times, in this case. lol

2023 is here, and with it comes new hope and encouragement about completing UFOs. My thoughts on approaching challenges in 2023 is:
Simplify and Innovate Treat everyone (including self) with kindness.
2022 was a year of finishing so many of my UFOs, and making great progress on others. It was a great encouagement for me to see some finishes. Last week, I counted up the remaining boxes of UFO projects, and it is still a daunting list. But since great progress was made last year, great progress can be made this year too!
I know, I know ...

I played hooky this week from the internet. Didn’t respond to your comments, didn’t comment on any of your blogs…..I am sorry. But I have great progress on an ancient UFO so I hope you will forgive me. The Jane Stickle quilt (in the Bennington, Vermont museum) has been a favorite of mine since I started quilting long ago. (Info here)
Well, this week I hauled out all of my blocks that have been constructed for some time, and decided it is time to put them together into a quilt top. I am making ...
read moreFor the last 2 weekends, we spent an awful lot of time in the car, travelling long distances across France. My original plan was to continue the cross stitching but my eye sight is no longer sharp enough to stitch in a moving car... I had to swap the cross-stitchinh for some hand stitching instead. I hadn't grabbed much before we left but I had my Dear Jane pouch with a few pieces to be done.
I’m bingeing on binding! 2020 and 2021 were my most productive years, quilt-making wise. Binding, not so much. March and April this year will see at least some, if not all, of the waiting quilts be finally completed. I spent some time last week making these bindings:
In addition to those 9 there are 5 in the fabric room with their quilts. Monday I get 2 more quilts back from the quilter. So, 9 + 5 + 2 = 16 quilts to bind. I finished binding 2 quilts before I made the bindings shown above. I don’t even mind doing binding ...
read moreI thought that I might spend lots of time sewing last week while on holidays but in the end I made the most of the snow and the beautiful weather and enjoyed some skiing and relaxing. Getting there and back took quite some time so the car journey was a good opportunity to work on my Dear Jane.
The assembling of rows A & B is now half completed. Not the most exciting but I don't want to leave it all to the end.

read moreOnce again, my Dear Jane has been set aside for far too long... I worked on a block (G11) in December while we were travelling but I think these were the only stitches for the whole of 2021. And that block is not even finished because I lost one of the applique pieces...
You would think that I would have posted regularly in 2020 and 2021 because of the lockdown. I have no idea why I didn’t. I was very productive. For awhile last year I was dropping off or picking up quilts from my long-armer every week or two. I haven’t counted lately but I must have at least a dozen to bind. Yikes! The biggest news is that Ladies of the Sea is among those to be bound. Yay! It came back from the quilter a few months ago. I had some finishing work to do: embroidering some missing ...

UFOs are NOT unidentified flying objects. At least, not in the world of quilting! Nope - that means UNFINISHED OBJECT. And there are a ton of other acronyms that have so cleverly been put together over the years. OH MY -- I just found a site with a LOT of acronyms. Check them out! Some pretty funny ones.
Before I get to the show and tell, I need to clarify one small detail about my wee rant yesterday. Some people sign up for classes with excellent intentions. Then life deals them a blow, and they are not able to continue or even ...

What's with the crazy weather? We had crazy rain for most of the day, and how about that wind? I don't think we had any issues at our house, but you can hear the house creaking in the wind, and those little bathroom vents flap like crazy!
The girls were thrilled to see me, and I managed to walk with each of them between the rain. I got lucky because this wasn't just rain - it was torrential rain driven by the wind. Fortunately, whenever the rain started, I was snuggled up with a quilt in my chair ...
